Big Idea/Theme: God’s Word is an expression of His love for His people.
Application/Aim: Embrace the love of God for His people by trusting in Jesus Christ.
(1) God’s Word Points Us to His Love for Us in Jesus Christ (Daniel 9:20-23)
(2) God’s Promises Are Fulfilled in Jesus Christ (Daniel 9:24)

Jesus is the fulfillment of this text. He fulfills both what was to be accomplished in the 70 weeks, and he fulfills the historical contours of what would happen in the 70 weeks. The way that God answers Daniel’s prayers for the forgiveness of the sins of God’s people is by helping him to forward to the good news of a covenant that would be forged in a “messiah” that would be cut of – namely, Jesus Christ (Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 10:1-14).
Big Idea: God’s people go to His word and respond in confession and pleading.
Application: Pray that God would give us the gifts of repentance and faith. Ask God to forgive you and others for sin. Come to God not based upon our insufficient righteousness, but based upon the righteousness of Jesus Christ alone.
(1) God’s People Go to God’s Word (Daniel 9:1-2)
(2) God’s People Respond to God’s Word – Confession (Daniel 9:3-14)
A. Our confession of sin is a response to the difference between who God is and who we are. We see this 4 times in vv. 4-14.
B. God’s appointed leaders will be held to account (v. 6 and 8)

(3) God’s People Respond to God’s Word – Intercession (Daniel 9:15-19)
Theme: Our fears are removed as we trust in Jesus Christ, the King of kings.
Aim: Reject the kings of this world, and to have Christ as your king.
(1) Worldly Kingdoms Cower in Fear (Daniel 2:1-13)
(2) God Alone Reveals Truth (Daniel 2:14-23)
(3) King Jesus Crushes our Fears (Daniel 2:24-49)
Theme: God gives biblical local churches the gift of elders.
Aim: Pray that God would give us the gift of qualified elders.
(1) Ministry of the Word and Prayer (Acts 6:1-7)
(2) Plurality (Acts 14:23; 15:4, 6; 16:4; 20:17; Phil. 1:1; Titus 1:5; James 5:14)
(3) Qualified (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9)
(4) To an End (Ephesians 4:11-14; Acts 6:7)
Theme: Jesus is David’s Lord and son, beware of teachers who crave money and honor, and give your all to God.
Aim: Worship God with your all, pray God would guard us from false teachers, pray that God would use our church to further His gospel
(1) God’s King is David’s Son & Lord (Mark 12:35-37)
(2) False Teachers Take for Selfish Gain (Mark 12:38-40)
(3) Give Your All to God (Mark 12:41-44).
Theme: Jesus is resplendent [shining] in glory, is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets by dying and being raise from the dead.
Aim: Walk away from this text in awe of Christ, and know more clearly that His the perfect fulfillment of God’s Word, and that we might walk with the hope of his care for us because Jesus died and rose again from the grave for His people.
(1) Jesus Is Glorious (Mark 9:1-4)
(2) What does Jesus Do? He fulfills the Law & the Prophets (Mark 9:5-8)
(3) How? Through His death and resurrection (Mark 9:9-13)
Theme: Rejecting God consists in offense and unbelief toward God, a lack of love for God’s people, not listening to the Bible, refusing to repent, and pursuing unsatisfying pleasures.
Aim: See your unbelief, ask God to strengthen your faith, and trust in His ability to powerfully save you from the posture of underestimating that Jesus is mighty and true.
Here’s how we reject God…
(1) Be Offended & Don’t Believe in Jesus (Mark 6:1-6)
(2) 3 “Do Nots” (Mark 6:7-13)
a. Don’t Love God’s People (vv. 7-11, especially 11)
b. Don’t Listen to the Apostles/Bible (vv. 7-11, especially 11)
c. Don’t Turn from Your Sin (v. 12)
(3) Ignore Who the Bible Says Jesus Is (Mark 6:14-16)
(4) Pursue Weak Fleeting Pleasures (Mark 6:17-29)
Theme: God’s kingdom will be revealed, grows through God’s Word, is not to be underestimated, and has a King Jesus Christ.
Aim: To grow in our understanding about God’s kingdom and pray that He will use His Word to establish His kingdom in and through us.
