An Expositional Sermon
What keeps people from believing in God? A couple years ago I was riding in the car with an old friend. I asked him what he thought about Jesus Christ, and he said, “I’m a scientist. I can’t believe in God.” Is it science that keeps people from believing in God, or is it the commonly accepted assumption that in order to do legitimate science a person can’t believe in God? It’s a smokescreen. What keeps a person from believing in God isn’t science, it’s their heart. But it’s not just science that we try to put between ourselves and God. It’s our jobs, sports, the arts, people. You name it, and the human heart will try to justify the rejection of God based on that thing. But we need to be careful here. Know your heart. What excuses do we make to justify passivity in following Christ. This is what we’re going to be considering this morning – Who stands between you and God?
