Outline:
Introduction: Car analogy, and orderliness in a local church is a good thing (1 Corinthians 14:33a, 40; Colossians 2:5; Titus 1:5)
(1) Deacons are people set aside in the church to serve (1 Timothy 3:8-13)
(2) Deacons are task-specific servants in the church (Acts 6:1-7; cf. James 2:15-17; Galatians 6:10)
(3) Deacons are qualified (Acts 6:3; 1 Timothy 3:8-13)
(4) Men or Women (1 Timothy 3:11; Romans 16:1)
(5) Deacons serve to an end: the glory of God in increased confidence in Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 3:13)
Conclusion: Deacons are arrows pointing to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
