“The Gospel of Jesus Christ” Mark 1:1-15

An Expositional Sermon
We can’t save ourselves. There’s nothing we can do to redeem ourselves from God’s wrath because of our sin. We’ve all done wrong, disobeyed God, and fallen short of the glory of God. We all deserve His wrath, but the beautiful good news of Jesus Christ is that He, fully God and fully man, came to live the life that we have not lived, perfectly pleasing to God, and He died bearing the eternal wrath of God in the place of His people. As the hymn says, “Full atonement can it be, Hallelujah, what a Savior!” Jesus had to be God in order to save us. Think of our Triune God working salvation. Your salvation wasn’t a cheap thing that was accomplished half-heartedly by God. No, God was all in on this. His entire essence and all three of His persons. He sent His Son to die. The Father and the Son give His Spirit to strengthen His people to persevere to the end. There’s no sense in which we can accomplish our salvation, it is all of God and issues to our eternal joy.
