(1) Does ignorance lead to lasting bliss? Does ignoring hard things satisfy your longing for justice?
(2) Do you take your hard questions to God in faith?
(3) What does it look like in your life to train your emotions in the context of faith? What practical steps are you taking to pursue this so that we might not be, “children tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes” (Ephesians 4:14)?
(4) Where do the boast and desires of the wicked come from in verse 3?
(5) Where does practical atheism and full on atheism come from in verse 6 and 13?
(6) What are at least five ways that the Psalmist describes the wicked?
(7) Number 1: arrogant boasting and pride (vv. 2-3) – What are the ways you are tempted to arrogant pride and boasting? Do you see selfishness as a virtue? What ways are you seeking to kill your pride with your hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ?
(8) Number 2: blindness to God’s judgments (v. 5) – Do you care that God’s judgment is coming for your sin?
(9) Number 3: denial of reality in an escapist optimism that over-estimates human ability (v. 6), being deceived by the thought that God has forgotten and doesn’t see our sin and wickedness (v. 11) – Are you tempted to believe that you are invincible and can do anything?
(10) Number 4: lying/deceiving, and causing trouble with words (v. 7) – How do you use words in your life to deceive to get what you want to nurture a life of arrogant boasting in the things we have and do instead of boasting in the glory of God and using words to point to Him and build others up?
(11) Number 5: attack stalk others as if prey to take exploit others for their own personal gain (vv. 8-10) – What are the secret things in your life that you “sit in ambush” or “lurk” to sin against God by using others for your sinful satisfaction?
(12) How was Jesus able to sing this song in a way that no one else ever has or will be able? How does this Psalm point to the perfect life, substitutionary death, justifying resurrection, ascension, current intercession, and promised coming again to judge the living and the dead that Jesus Christ has, is, and will fully do?
(13) How ought it to be an encouragement to us that Jesus was able to sing this song?
(14) Do you believe that God is the eternal King of kings and Lord of lords? How does your life reflect what you believe about this?
