“Confession of Sin” Daniel 9:1-19

Big Idea: God’s people go to His word and respond in confession and pleading. Application: Pray that God would give us the gifts of repentance and faith. Ask God to forgive you and others for sin. Come to God not based upon our insufficient righteousness, but based upon the righteousness of Jesus Christ alone. (1) God’s People Go to God’s Word (Daniel 9:1-2) (2) God’s People Respond to God’s Word – Confession (Daniel 9:3-14) A. Our confession of sin is a response to the difference between who God is and who we are. We see this 4 times in vv. 4-14. B. God’s appointed leaders will be held to account (v. 6 and 8) C. “Search Me, Lord” Psalm 139:1-24

Theme: God sees and knows all, is everywhere, all powerful, and He loves His people. Aim: Let the knowledge that God searches and knows our hearts lead to our humble invitation for Him to search our hearts, and to lead us to everlasting life through faith in Christ. What Is the Gospel? Romans 1:1-3:31

Theme: The gospel is the good news of how we can be saved from God’s wrath for our sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Aim: Repent and believe in the gospel. (1) God – The gospel is God’s righteousness revealed (Romans 1:1-17) a. There is a God b. The gospel is God’s message i. The gospel is the message that was foretold (Romans 1:1-3; 3:21) ii. The gospel is a message about God’s Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 1:9) iii. The gospel is a message (Romans 1:1, 5-6, 9, 11-15) iv. The gospel has power toward all who believe (Romans 1:16) v. The gospel reveals God’s righteousness (Romans 1:17) (2) Man – The gospel demands an understanding of God’s wrath for man’s unrighteousness (1:18-3:20) a. God is wrathful for unrighteousness (Romans 1:18-32) b. God judges the secrets of men by Jesus Christ (Romans 2:1-29) c. No human being will be justified in God’s sight by works of the law (Romans 3:1-20) (3) Christ – The gospel is God’s saving righteousness for His people in Jesus Christ (Romans 3:21-3:31) a. “Jesus Didn’t Know Everything” Mark 13:32-37

Theme: We don’t know when Jesus is coming, but He is coming so keep watch. Aim: Live your life for the glory of God in light of Christ’s certain return. (1) Only the Father Knows (Mark 13:32) (2) Be On Guard (Mark 13:33) (3) Stay Awake (Mark 13:33-37).

“Jesus Rides on in Majesty” Mark 11:1-25

Theme: Jesus is a King who can’t be deceived, who rejects dead religion, and who enables prayer. Aim: Pray that God would give us faith, that He would preserve us. Pray that God would give us the gift of daily repentance. Pray that God would set our affections and love upon Jesus. Pray that God would save our family and friends from a false sense of security in religion. (1) Jesus Rides in as King (Mark 11:1-11) (2) We Can’t Deceive Jesus (Mark 11:12-14) (3) Clearing Out Dead Religion (Mark 11:15-19), (4) Faith Expressed in Prayer (Mark 11:20-25)

“King for Sinners” Mark 2:1-17

Theme: Jesus came for the sick, forgiving sin and calling sinners. Aim: Jesus is a king for sinners who feel their need for him. You can’t have Jesus as your king unless you’re a sinner. If you refuse to acknowledge you’re a sinner, friend drop your guise. Drop your pride. Open your eyes and see your need in the face of the coming judgment of a holy God. Turn from your sin and trust in Jesus as your king. (1) Jesus Forgives Sinners (Mark 2:1-12) (2) Jesus Calls “Sell Outs” (Mark 2:13-14) (3) Jesus Came for the Sick (Mark 2:15-17)

“The Gospel of Jesus Christ” Mark 1:1-15

Theme: Jesus, the Son of God, is God, and Jesus is the good news that John looked forward to. Aim: Go to the Word of God to learn who who Jesus Christ really is, then repent and believe in Him! (1) Jesus Is the Good News (Mark 1:1) a. The beginning of the gospel b. Point of origin (2) Jesus Is the Son of God (Mark 1:1b) (3) Jesus’ Forerunner Foretold (Mark 1:2-8) a. John the Baptist b. “Suffering, God’s Kindness & Hope” Ruth 1:1-22

Theme: In the midst of sin and suffering, God is kind in His providence to draw His people to Himself with good news. Aim: Trust in the good news of God’s provision of salvation through the living water and bread of life, Jesus Christ (1) Suffering (Ruth 1:1-5) (2) God’s Providential Kindness (Ruth 1:6-18) (3) Hope (Ruth 1:19-22)
