“What Does It Take to Reject God?” Mark 6:1-29

Our natural disposition is inclined toward sin. This is what it takes to reject God – sin. Astonishment, offense, unbelief, dishonoring Christ, underestimating Him, a lack of love for God’s people, ignoring God’s Word, refusing to repent from our sin, ignorance of who Jesus really is, pursuing the weak pleasures of our comfort, foolish promises, upholding our pride, pleasing people, and holding worldly grief that doesn’t lead to repentance. The good news though is that Christ is all-powerful, and He breaks into our unbelief and sin, breaks our bondage, opens our eyes with His Word, and He saves His people. We rightfully deserve God’s eternal wrath for our sinful rejection of Him. But Christ was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief…He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed (Isa. 53:3-5). On the cross Jesus cried, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” (Mark 15:34) so that we my cry, “Abba, father, why have you embraced a sinner like me? Jesus is the stone the builders rejected who has become the chief cornerstone. Will you build your life upon Christ? Turn from your rejection of God.
