His eye had seen and heard all. Again he says he knows and isn’t inferior to them. He still desires to argue his case with God. Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar are whitewash with lies, and are worthless physicians. He asks that they keep silent, and to hear his argument and pleading. He asks if they would speak falsely for God, show partiality to Him. Will they be well when God searches them out? God will surely rebuke them if they show partiality. God’s majesty will terrify them. He asks them for silence, so he can speak. Though God slay Job, he will hope in God, and will argue his ways to God’s face. It is the salvation of Job, that the godless shall not come before him. He asks them to keep listening to him. Job prepared his case and knows he is in the right. He asks for 2 things: (1) withdraw their hands far from him, so as not to terrify him, and (2) then he asks them to call him and he will answer or let Job speak and they reply to him. He asks them to make known his sin. He asks them why they hide their face and count Job as an enemy. They write bitter things against Job and make him inherit the iniquities of his youth. They put Job’s feet in the stocks and watch all his paths.
God, help us to not look down on others who are suffering as inferior, hiding our faces, as if their sin is greater than ours. God, guard us from showing partiality. God, your majesty will frighten us in our sin against you. God, help us to suffer well for your glory. God, when we suffer help us to cry out with Job that though You slay us, yet we will hope in You, and having our hope set in You doesn’t discourage us be honest and argue our ways with You. Father, humble us, and help us to trust in You, though You slay us. Father, enable us to put our ultimate hope in the perfect righteous sufferer, Jesus Christ. You were pleased to crush Him, so that You would save a people. In His suffering we see that His hope was in you. Father, put our hope in His death and resurrection.
