Joseph was falsely imprisoned for Potiphar’s wife’s claims. Pharaoh’s chief cupbearer and chief baker committed an offense against Pharaoh. He put them in the custody of the captain of the guard over the prison where Joseph was being held (40:3). The prison guard put Joseph over them, and he attended them. They both dreamed separate dreams that troubled each of them. When Joseph saw that they were troubled he asked them why they were downcast, and they said they were downcast because they had dreams and no one could interpret them.…

Joseph was brought to Egypt, and an Egyptian officer of Pharaoh, Potiphar who was the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites. The LORD was with Joseph, and he became successful in Potiphar’s house. Potiphar saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD caused everything he did to succeed. Because of this Joseph found favor in Potiphar’s sight and he put him in charge of everything he had, making him an overseer in his house. Judah went down from his brothers and turned to Hirah, an Adullamite. He saw the daughter of Shua, a Canaanite, there. Jacob lived where his dad sojourned, Canaan. Joseph was 17 and was with his brothers pasturing their sheep.
