Romans 8 – Life in the Spirit, Heirs with Christ, Future Glory, God’s Everlasting Love

There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. The law of the Spirit of life has set us free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. God has done what the law couldn’t do. He sent his Son, and in Him condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous requirement of the law would be fulfilled in us who walk not in our flesh but the Spirit – setting our minds on things of the Spirit. To set the mind on the flesh is death, but on the Spirit is life and peace. Those in the flesh cannot please God. We are in the Spirit, if God dwells in us. Anyone who doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If we have the Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead the Spirit will also give life to our mortal bodies. We are debtors. If we live according to the flesh we will die, but if by the Spirit we will live. All who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. We received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and heirs, if we suffer with Him to be glorified with Him. The sufferings of this time aren’t worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. The creation waits loning for the revealing of the sons of God. The creation will be set free from bondage to corruption and obtain freedom of the glory of the children of God. The whole creation has been groaning with the pains of childbirth. We who have the first fruits of the Spirit groan as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. In this hope we were saved. Hope that is seen isn’t hope, but if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We don’t know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words. God who searches hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. For those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose. Those whom God foreknew, he predestined, to be conformed to the image of Jesus, so he’d be the firstborn among many brothers. Those whom he predestined he called, justified, and glorified. If God is for us who can be against us? God didn’t spare His Son for us so we know he’ll give us all things. There is no charge or condemnation against the elect. Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Praise God that though we are sinners we will not face condemnation if we have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. In Christ we have hope. We will inherit all things through Christ. We have His Spirit. We have salvation. We have adoption as sons of the living and true God. We were predestined, called, justified, and glorified. We have nothing to fear from those who are against us, and Christ is interceding for us at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ. Let these truths swell your heart in worship of God.
