“The Beginning of Israel” Genesis 32:1-36:43

Theme: God fulfills his promise to graciously create and preserve His people contrary to what they deserve. Aim: Be reconciled to God through the Messiah-offspring of Israel, Jesus Christ. (1) Can men strive with God? (Genesis 32:1-32) (2) Is reconciliation possible? (Genesis 33:1-20) (3) Is there any justice? (Genesis 34:1-31) (4) The beginning of Israel (Genesis 35:1-36:43)

“God’s Promise Extends to Jacob” Genesis 25:19-31:55

Theme: God will keep His promises and He will hold His people fast. Aim: Build your hopes in the promises of God, and have the Lord as your fear. (1) God Elects (Genesis 25:19-34; Malachi 1:2-3; Romans 9:13) a. Pray God’s promises (Genesis 25:21; 32:9-12) (2) God Is His People’s Fear (Genesis 26:1-35) (3) God Fulfills His Promise Through and To Sinners (Genesis 27:1-28:22) (4) God Gives Jacob a Family (Genesis 29:1-31:55)

What Is the Gospel? Romans 1:1-3:31

Theme: The gospel is the good news of how we can be saved from God’s wrath for our sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Aim: Repent and believe in the gospel. (1) God – The gospel is God’s righteousness revealed (Romans 1:1-17) a. There is a God b. The gospel is God’s message i. The gospel is the message that was foretold (Romans 1:1-3; 3:21) ii. The gospel is a message about God’s Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 1:9) iii. The gospel is a message (Romans 1:1, 5-6, 9, 11-15) iv. The gospel has power toward all who believe (Romans 1:16) v. The gospel reveals God’s righteousness (Romans 1:17) (2) Man – The gospel demands an understanding of God’s wrath for man’s unrighteousness (1:18-3:20) a. God is wrathful for unrighteousness (Romans 1:18-32) b. God judges the secrets of men by Jesus Christ (Romans 2:1-29) c. No human being will be justified in God’s sight by works of the law (Romans 3:1-20) (3) Christ – The gospel is God’s saving righteousness for His people in Jesus Christ (Romans 3:21-3:31) a. Righteousness apart from the law b. What are you trusting in for salvation? (4) Response – The gospel demands that all mankind repent and believe in Jesus Christ (1:5, 17, 25, 28; 2:1-5, 4, 7, 8; etc.)

Theme: Though God’s covenant people struggle with unbelief as they wait, God keeps His promises. Aim: “Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” (Psalm 27:14) (1) Faith & Unbelief in God (Genesis 21:1-33) (2) Faith that God Can Raise the Dead (Genesis 22:1-23) (3) Faith that God Will Fulfill His Promises (Genesis 23:1-25:18
