What Is the Gospel? Romans 1:1-3:31

Theme: The gospel is the good news of how we can be saved from God’s wrath for our sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Aim: Repent and believe in the gospel. (1) God – The gospel is God’s righteousness revealed (Romans 1:1-17) a. There is a God b. The gospel is God’s message i. The gospel is the message that was foretold (Romans 1:1-3; 3:21) ii. The gospel is a message about God’s Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 1:9) iii. The gospel is a message (Romans 1:1, 5-6, 9, 11-15) iv. The gospel has power toward all who believe (Romans 1:16) v. The gospel reveals God’s righteousness (Romans 1:17) (2) Man – The gospel demands an understanding of God’s wrath for man’s unrighteousness (1:18-3:20) a. God is wrathful for unrighteousness (Romans 1:18-32) b. God judges the secrets of men by Jesus Christ (Romans 2:1-29) c. No human being will be justified in God’s sight by works of the law (Romans 3:1-20) (3) Christ – The gospel is God’s saving righteousness for His people in Jesus Christ (Romans 3:21-3:31) a. (4) Response – The gospel demands that all mankind repent and believe in Jesus Christ (1:5, 17, 25, 28; 2:1-5, 4, 7, 8; etc.)

Theme: Though God’s covenant people struggle with unbelief as they wait, God keeps His promises. “Jesus Came Back from the Dead” Mark 16:1-8

Theme: Christ rose from the dead. Aim: Pray that God would strengthen our faith in Christ’s resurrection and help us to fight for hope in an often hopeless world, because of the resurrection. Jesus’ resurrection was… (1) On The First Day of the Week (Mark 16:1-2) (2) Unexpected (Mark 16:3-5, 8) (3) Was Powerfully Able to Save (Mark 16:6-7)

“Pay Your Taxes & Marriage Isn’t Forever” Mark 12:13-27

Theme: Jesus said to give up your life to God, and that Yahweh is the God of the living. Aim: Worship God with your whole life, and submit to our earthly government. Pray for faith to believe in the resurrection and to find hope, not in earthly marriage, but being united to Jesus Christ as our Bridegroom. (1) Pay Your Taxes (Mark 12:13-17) (2) Marriage Isn’t Forever (Mark 12:18–27).

“Jesus Rides on in Majesty” Mark 11:1-25

Theme: Jesus is a King who can’t be deceived, who rejects dead religion, and who enables prayer. Aim: Pray that God would give us faith, that He would preserve us. Pray that God would give us the gift of daily repentance. Pray that God would set our affections and love upon Jesus. Pray that God would save our family and friends from a false sense of security in religion. “Approaching Salvation” Mark 9:14-50

Theme: Faith in Christ is being fully dependent upon Jesus’ death and resurrection and it bears the fruit of humility, cooperation, and perseverance. Aim: Let this text strengthen your faith and bear the fruit of humility and perseverance in your fight against your sin with hope in the gospel. Let this text help you to see the seriousness of God’s coming wrath.
